RGB vs. CMYK for Printing
Screens make color with red, green, and blue light. Most full-color printing builds color with cyan, magenta, yellow, and black inks or toners. Because these systems create color differently, a bright screen preview is not a guarantee of an identical printed result.
Where shifts are most visible
Highly saturated blues, greens, oranges, and neon-like colors often change most when moved into a printable range. Dark shadows can also lose detail if several heavy color values are combined.
Practical file preparation
- Use a calibrated display when color is important.
- Follow the color profile and file format requested for the product.
- Use vector brand colors when possible.
- Review converted photographs for skin tones and shadow detail.
- Avoid judging final color from a phone screen alone.
What a proof can and cannot confirm
A digital proof is useful for size, content, position, crop, and general color relationships. It usually cannot reproduce the exact appearance of ink on a specific stock. For color-critical work, confirm whether a physical proof or a matched-color workflow is available before placing the full run.
